Knowing how I felt throughout this election season and the emotion that I experienced,
I asked several members and none members to give us their reactions to this major milestone.

Some of the comments are from the older generation while others are from younger members that were quite young during the Civil Rights era.

Bro. Joel

And This Is What They Said:

I thank the Good Lord for the opportunity for our people as a whole to see the first black president. It's really about just having a chance to prove ourselves. The United States would never know how it would have been with a black president until now. We have given ourselves once again the opportunity to show the world that we can rise as a whole as black people. I thank God, and I know he is going to lead the nation to the promise land-------------Quincy Walker

As a wife, parent, and a proud black American, the first thing I did when they started to announce "President -Elect Obama", I began to pray that Jesus keep him and his family safe from seen and unseen danger, keep him around positive people and equip him with the knowledge that he needs. Later I began to think about how all black Americans must feel, so great and honored. But, the whole reality didn't hit me until I was alone and I must say the emotions that I felt were high------Smeadie B. Fisher

I know that this was predestined to be a Phenomenal act of God. It was time for a change for the better, not only for the African Americans, but the world as a whole, and I just ask that we keep  our president-elect and family lifted up  before God that he will keep his angels encamped around him and that he adheres to God's will---Sandra Williams

 Most exciting and rewarding moment in my lifetime and in history. It was  a reward and encouragement for youths, letting them know you can be anyone and do anything that you study and work to become. For our elders, it was like a confirmation from God the he is still  looking upon us. That which was last has become first.---Jerome and Mary Reed

God blessed the United States of America.
This election was predestinated to be as it is where as Barack Obama would be our president in 2008. I am very pleased with this outcome. God is still in the blessing business and I know that He will continue to strength the Obama family and let all his people rejoice and live together as one nation under God. There's a long road ahead, but with God in the midst of it all, it will be so. Special prayer and blessing to President Elect Barack Obama. History has been made this day----------Nancy Phillips - Shelby --Triumph Village Christian Academy and Preschool.

My reaction to President Elect Obama is not all about race. We as a race  have come a long ways with the blessing of God. What make me really proud, we are all God's children. President Elect Obama has put joy in my heart. He is trying to bring us together as one nation under God----Mrs. Bell --Triumph Village.

It's been a long time coming, but a change is here, a change with the leadership of our elected president, Barack Obama. I voted for him because I believed in his speeches and debates. I truly believe he will turn America around. He will help us afford decent health care, he will turn the economy in the right direction. I also feel that he will make a change in the military for our soldiers as to will they stay on or come home. This man's name will go down in history. On November 4, 2008 history was MADE. May God bless and lead President Barack Obama---Catherine Jenkins---Triumph Village's Pre-K teacher.

I am over-joyed at the reality of the victory of President Elect Obama. God's plan for his people has come. The seed of hope that was planted by persons such Sojourner Truth, Medgar Evers, Rev. Martin Luther King, Rev Jessie Jackson, and the sacrifices of countless others have been harvested. We who remain must now work to see that our harvest does not become waste. We must do our part to make this victory a new beginning for all of us. We are living out God's plan for his people. This election more than any others election for me as a voter  has captivated my soul in such a way that I am so reminded of how the Lord restored  the  people and His promise to restore us is being fulfilled for the world through the election of our 44th  president of the United States, Barack Obama.

To have the chance to vote for a black man for the office of President was awesome. But to have elected a president who is first of all a Christian, intelligent, charismatic, humble against critics, diplomatic, who by the way, just happened to be black; this was a dream realized.

I applaud the American people (Black, White, Hispanic, etc. ) who voted for President Elect Obama, knowing that he was the best man for the office. We are living history now, and I urge all Americans to pray for our new president and his family, this nation of ours, and for the world as God has promised to always hear our prayers and deliver us from our trials. Yes, We Can... has become Yes We Did !!!!-----Anita Lindsey, Director of Triumph Preschool-- Proud American

It is a wonderful thing that has happened to all of us in these United States. It is showing that God has His hand on us. It feel like Christmas, it's indescribable, many thoughts rushed through my brain. We have been taught to believe in the physical world and to put our hopes and dreams in man. Now that we have seen this thing come to pass, we should believe and know that God is the maestro of this well-tuned orchestra. This is a mystical time in our history, so, if you like to see mysteries unfold, stay prayerful, listen, and visualize.---Jeannett M. Outland-----Triumph Village Cafeteria manager

God has delivered the people once more!! As the numbers were pouring in, I remembered the story of the Israelites as they were being delivered from Egypt. As I praised God for our country's deliverance---I am reminded not to doubt as the Israelites as they traveled through the wilderness, but to continue to keep my mind on God ruler over all things---Evelyn Palmer---Tuesday night Bible class director.

I have known since early childhood that becoming the president is the highest official job a  person could hold in the United States of America. Historically, this position has always evoked a societal dictated perfunctory  model of a person.
Newly, Barack Hussein Obama came on the scene as a candidate for presidential position. Name alone broke all former historical examples, not to mention:

1. Obama was born out of illegitimacy;
2. Obama is biracial being of white American and Native American descent ;
3.Obama's primary education was obtained abroad.

Despite these nontraditional and striking differences in comparison to past elected presidents, our diverse citizens rallied together by upholding all of the truths of democracy. Citizens turned out in records numbers exercising our  greatest individual right and voted the first African American as president of the United States of American.

Although our grand and prominent government institute separation of church and state, the ruling citizen still exalt God in our  political processes and decision making. For only God, the Almighty could have orchestrated such a Feat !!!!  Amanda Welch-3rd grade teacher, of Triumph Christian Academy.

President Obama - 2008

A black man raised by a white grandmother who was given a dream.

Dr. King, a black man who was also given a dream

We have been walking hand and hand all along because these two people dream had cross with many scarifies for their future as well as our. This truly has been a good year and a historical one in the making.

Never have my family and I all got so involved with an election like this one. Watching the debate on TV with my seventeen year old son was a joy. He wasn't able to vote this election term, but he has a day to remember what the election really meant for us as black Americans.

Singing the song "God Bless America" and "America" could really mean something to us as black Americans God has blessed America. So let freedom ring. "Thank God Almighty we are free at last"

Continued prayer and protection goes our for President Obama and his family. Remember God had already elected this day.

---Mrs. Shelia Jerdan, ---Triumph Village CDC-4 year olds teacher.

My reaction to Obama becoming the President of the United States of America.  For me it's a blessing to see how God has reconditioned the mind of so many people.  I think it should let us know that the white man is no longer the cause of our failure.  Obama won not because of the African American votes only but because all nationality of people came together. However, I think the change has to take place in each individual person and from there we can change the state of our society.  I don't think it's realistic to think he can fix everything without everyone doing their part.  How can he keep our young men from killing or selling drugs if the families continue to enable them and spend the drug money? How can he fix the economy if people are start ignorant to their finances and how to handle their money.  I think most problems start in the home and when they go unfixed it becomes society's problem.  I pray God will lead and direct him because he truly has a lot of work to do-----Sophia Edwards----Triumph Village
